Our Services

Befriending

We offer befriending services specifically designed for African families involved with children’s services or the family court system who may have limited support networks. This service pairs families with trained volunteers who provide a listening ear, companionship, and practical guidance tailored to their needs.

Our befriending service helps parents navigate challenges, build confidence, and feel less isolated. Volunteers offer encouragement and advice on parenting, cultural integration, and community resources, creating a supportive environment for families to thrive.

This service is particularly beneficial for families under stress or scrutiny, as it provides a safe space for them to express concerns, gain clarity, and work on positive changes. By fostering connections and reducing isolation, the befriending service supports families in creating stronger networks, improving their circumstances, and ensuring better outcomes for themselves and their children.

Culturally Informed Parenting Support

We provide culturally informed parenting support to help African parents and carers adapt to raising children in a new cultural environment. We guide families in understanding UK parenting norms, safeguarding laws, and expectations while respecting and integrating their cultural values.

By offering this support early, we help families confidently navigate challenges before they become significant issues. Early intervention reduces the risk of misunderstandings that can lead to child protection concerns, ensuring families are better prepared to meet their children’s needs and comply with UK regulations.

Our culturally sensitive approach fosters trust and empowerment, enabling parents to build stronger relationships with their children and their community. This early support helps prevent problems from escalating, promotes family stability, and creates a safe and nurturing environment for children to thrive. Through knowledge and integration, we aim to strengthen families and enhance their sense of belonging.

Targeted Parenting Interventions

We provide targeted parenting interventions for African families involved with children’s services or the family court system. Our Positive Parenting Programme is a 10-week intervention designed to support parents in addressing concerns and meeting expectations within the UK child protection framework.

Each programme is tailored to the family’s needs, beginning with a thorough assessment and consultation with the referring agency. It includes guidance on UK parenting norms, safeguarding laws, and the welfare checklist, alongside culturally informed support that respects the family’s heritage.

This approach helps parents develop the skills and knowledge needed to meet children’s needs effectively and safely. For families where children have entered foster care, our support aims to enable safe reunification by addressing concerns and promoting positive change.

Bespoke Culturally Sensitive Assessments

We provide bespoke, culturally sensitive assessments tailored to African families, including parenting, pre-birth, risk, sibling, viability, kinship, and Special Guardianship Order (SGO) assessments. What sets our approach apart is that we integrate parenting teaching directly into the assessment process.

This dual approach ensures that families not only gain an understanding of the expectations within the UK but also receive practical guidance to enhance their parenting skills. By considering cultural nuances, our assessments offer a well-rounded view of parenting practices, helping to bridge cultural differences while respecting heritage.

The benefits of this method include empowering parents with knowledge and skills, promoting better family outcomes, and fostering stronger connections between families and their communities. By teaching alongside assessing, we create a supportive environment that focuses on growth and integration, ensuring families feel valued and equipped to succeed.
